Bastrop ISD is 70% economically disadvantaged according to Fall 2019 data and will only to continue to grow has the district grows. Many of those students are from low-income families who live in rural areas of the district. Many of our lowest rated schools are over 80% economically disadvantaged and not enough resources are being focused to improve the academic performance of these schools.
As a trustee, my track record of service in economically disadvantaged communities will help us bridge the gap in educational disparities for all students. I will continue to be a voice for every student especially those who may not be able to speak for themselves. In order for our school district and community to thrive, every student has to have the opportunity to receive an exceptional education regardless of race, income, gender, or life issues.
